Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) recently test-fired the Laser-Guided Long-Range Anti-Tank Missile called L-UMTAS, developed by Roketsan. The missile was fired from the TAI Hurkus light attack aircraft in production for the Turkish Air Force.

According to Asian Military Review, the L-UMTAS has a tandem anti-tank warhead and an alternative antipersonnel warhead. It has been integrated with the T-129 ATAK and S-70B Seahawk helicopters and can also be fired from fixed-wing aircraft, unmanned combat aerial vehicles (UCAV) and both land and sea platforms.

It has a day and night operational capability, is effective against moving and stationary targets and an insensitive munition capability against fuel fire and bullet impact. With an effective range of 500m to 8000m, the L-UMTAS’s semi-active laser-seeker tandem warhead is effective against all types of armor protection.

The European consortium Airbus has signed an agreement with Roketsan to arm the C295W surveillance and transport aircraft with L-UMTAS missiles and Azerbaijan and Pakistan have both expressed interest in the missile, the report added.
