The head of the US Pacific Fleet, Adm. Scott Swift is traveling to Japan to remove the commander of US 7th Fleet, Vice Adm. Joseph Aucoin, from his position just days after the second deadly crash involving a US warship this year, a US official told USNI News.

Vice Adm. Aucoin was slated to retire within the next month, but the move from Navy leaders is intended to expedite the transition to Aucoin’s replacement, Rear Adm. Phillip Sawyer. Sawyer was announced to lead the 7th Fleet in May.
