"We Prevented Fraud at the World's Leading Banks"

Amos Marom, VP of IBM Trusteer, provided an interesting behind-the-scenes glimpse to the cybersecurity solutions provided to the world's leading banks during the NexTech conference

"Everyone in the media is talking this week about Cyber Monday, but the real news begin in Be'er-Sheva, behind the scenes," said Amos Marom, VP of IBM Trusteer, a provider of security solutions against financial fraud to hundreds of major banks worldwide, in his address at the NexTech conference. "Owing to the technology developed at the Cyber Technology Excellence Center, an exclusive cooperative alliance between IBM and the Ben-Gurion University, we managed to detect and prevent, over the last few weeks, attempts of financial fraud at the world's leading banks."

"Thanks to that unique technology developed by the researchers here in Beersheba, we managed to detect and prevent hacker activity of a kind we had never seen before. It is by no means a simple undertaking to monitor the various and constantly changing hacking attempts and the joint brain trust located here at the Capital of the Negev does wonders in finding solutions and defenses. Thanks to them, massive damage that would have been inflicted on the finances and prestige of some of the world's leading financial institutions was prevented. It is a major source of pride to be a part of the ecosystem established here in Beersheba." Marom spoke at the NexTech conference organized by Israel Defense and CyberTech as the representative of IBM Israel, a company engaged in extensive activity in the field of cyber technology in Israel, in the public and private sectors. This activity encompasses hundreds of employees at various centers: research, development of security software for websites and applications and the Israeli high-tech company Trusteer, acquired by IBM.

Rick Kaplan, CEO of IBM Israel, also attended the conference and said: "We should invest in education and decide how to focus our efforts." In the context of IBM's activity in Israel, the Company offers summer camp activities and professional meetings for youngsters, in order to get them interested in studying the sciences. Kaplan explained that the Company is engaged in extensive activity opposite IDF and is a partner in the development of the national CERT – Israel's national cybersecurity organization.

"The State of Israel should invest in education and in focusing. As it is such a small country, it should decide where to place the emphasis, as it did successfully with regard to cyber technology. It is impossible to branch off to every field of activity," said Kaplan. "It cannot compete against other countries around the world with regard to the aspect of the number of university graduates. At the same time, Israel has a major advantage in certain fields, and these fields should be emphasized."
