India and Russia announced a joint venture to build Russian Kamov helicopters in India after summit talks on Saturday between President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Economic Times reports that Indian military officials have said the plan is to build at least 200 helicopters the defense forces need, and is part of PM Modi's drive to build a defense industrial base in India.

India also announced that it will buy the S-400 'Triumf' air defiance systems from Russia, worth over $5 billion, and collaborate in making four state-of-the-art frigates, according to a report on The Times of India.

The S-400 surface-to-air missiles are meant to strengthen India's defenses along its borders with China and Pakistan, military officials have said.
