Gaza: Israeli Air Force and Shin Bet Assassinated PFLP Militant

In a joint operation by the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) and the Israel Air Force, Ahmad al Zaaneen, a member of a Gaza-based Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine’s military wing, was targeted and hit. A second militant was killed in the attack.

He has been involved in recent years in a long line of rocket attacks into Israel and a large number of attempts to execute bomb attacks, sniping attacks and anti-tank missile shooting at IDF forces operating in the Gaza Strip surrounding.

Among Zaaneen’s most recent attack was launching of rockets during the former Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon’s funeral.

The Minister of Defense Moshe (Bogie) Ya'alon referred to the assassination and said that the IDF will continue to act, in order to take a heavy toll on Hamas and those engaged in terror and shooting at Israel. “The assassination is another step in our determination to fight fire missiles and rockets at Israeli cities and Israeli citizens. We will not hesitate to hurt those who threaten our security, and we will do this with all means and tools at our disposal”, Ya’alon added.

Hours before, Palestinian terrorists detonated a bomb on the border between southern Gaza and Israel. IDF sources said the explosive was planted on the Gazan side of the fence, and was an attempt to kill soldiers.
