Windward, a maritime data and analytics company from Israel, is celebrating its five-year anniversary. As part of the celebration, the company announced that Retired General David Petraeus and Dan Senor are joining the company as investors.

"We are privileged to have General David Petraeus and Dan Senor join us as we mark five years on this incredible journey," said Ami Daniel, the co-Founder and CEO of Windward. "General Petraeus' dual perspective -- as one of the world's foremost military and intelligence experts and as a member of KKR -- gives him a unique vantage point on the value of Windward's data and analytics for both security and finance. Dan Senor - investor and New York Times bestselling author - broke new ground in identifying and explaining to the world the uniqueness of Israeli innovation. The book that he co-authored, Start-Up Nation, coined the term now widely used to describe Israel's successful technological ecosystem. We couldn't be more proud to have David and Dan join us as we look towards expanding our reach into the U.S. market."

"When I first saw Windward's intelligence system in action a few months back, I was hugely impressed by the level of insight it provides on ships - and cargos - worldwide," said retired General David Petraeus. "In the military and intelligence world, the ability to identify suspicious activity at sea, in real time and with limited or no prior intelligence, is truly priceless.  In the financial world, there is a similar hunger to have real visibility on ships, on the aggregate level, in order to understand the reality of the world's commodity flows, which have a massive impact on the world economy."

"I have been analyzing and writing about innovation out of Israel for over a decade," said Dan Senor, co-author of Start-Up Nation, "It is difficult to overstate the potential reach of Windward. Not only is it global, but it has built an industry solution that will impact every sector that touches the maritime domain."

Windward is the first company to take all of the world's maritime data, hundreds of millions of data points on ships worldwide, and make sense of it for anyone with stakes at sea. The company's data and analytics are in wide use by security and intelligence clients worldwide who need to preemptively identify suspicious ships at sea, even without prior intelligence. An industry solution, Windward is now bringing its data and analytics to the world of finance, giving financial institutions, including hedge funds and commodity traders, access to accurate, real-time information on the physical flows of seaborne commodities, which serve as lead indicators to the financial world. This data is also a new source of unstructured data for financial institutions to mine for unique trading opportunities.

Over the past few years, Windward has solidified its position as a leader in the maritime intelligence market, serving security and intelligence clients worldwide.  The company is now leveraging its unique data and analytics, and success with governmental clients, to tap the huge opportunity across the maritime ecosystem - the last analog market.
